RAMGARH: The second trial run of the Patna-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express was conducted successfully on Sunday ahead of its formal inauguration next week.
The train, which has a top speed of 160kmph, ran at 40 kilometres an hour on the stretch between Barkakana and Mesra stations during the trial.
"The speed of the Vande Bharat could not be increased in difficult terrains for safety reasons and the geographical condition of the 27 km-long stretch between Sidhwar (Ramgarh) and Sanki (Ranchi) is such that the track passes through hills, dense forest, four tunnels and high railway bridges," a senior railway official said.

Joydeep Gosh, the public relations officer of the East Central Railway's (ECR) Dhanbad division, said the second trial run of the Vande Bharat has been successfully completed. The third trial run is likely before the official launch of the passenger service, he added.
When TOI entered its coaches to see the amenities that make Vande Bharat a premier train, a technical official explained the working and the facilities provided onboard. He said the doors are centrally locked on the lines of metro trains and the widows are extra large.
He further said big-space western and Indian-style commodes with easy flushing systems are installed in the restrooms. Soap dispensers and hand driers, differently-abled friendly toilets automatic internal doors connected the coaches, and push-to-talk buttons installed along the seats for emergency communication with the loco pilots are the amenities provided. The foods and snacks to be provided onboard will be decided later, the official added.
